WIPzine: Call For Submissions!

Dear Fellow Alums,

Following the creation of Group 6, we are thrilled to see so much excitement amongst the alumni. Group 6 desires to incite an ongoing conversation in support of all AIB/ LUCAD MFA alums. In that spirit, we would like to introduce a WIPzine, a limited run, self-made publication for alumni, to be published in conjunction with the Group 6 pop-up show.

WIPzine is a virtual extension of our studios, a pseudo-MFA-critique space, a fertile field and a chance to open dialogue about our ideas and working spaces. Each page revels in the fabulous, unraveling path of independent LUCAD/AIB alums, and engages the process of process itself.

The WIPzine #1, Summer 2017 Issue centers on the continued critical, relevant and emergent energy of alumni studio practice.

While finished projects suggest the final articulation of an idea, the better part of our collective work as artists and theorists exists in a space of progress; that ongoing, formative territory nowhere near the finish line. The process of progress could arguably be a body of work itself. As MFAs, we live in the space of process, the territory of emerging ideas—and it's the territory we address least in our professional lives, yet was once the heart of our MFA experience. WIPzine accesses this space as a dynamic archive—entering and celebrating the discourse of work in progress.

Submission Guidelines

Open to all LUCAD/AIB MFA Alumni. No submission fee.

A submission can include (but is not limited to) a description, outline, incomplete draft, documentation photos, process photos, image and text, video stills, schematics, formal and informal essays, writing excerpts, blog entries, poetry, web, video and audio links, sketchbook and journal pages, and any other articulated brainstorming related to work in progress.

Developing bodies of work, projects without form, emerging questions and personal approaches to investigating, resolving and developing ideas are all welcome. Got a page full of idea shards? Index cards covered in text? Audio on SoundCloud? Share ‘em.

At this time, we are unable to pay for contributions, but contributors receive a copy of the zine.
