Who is Group 6?

Fellow AIB/ LUCAD alums,

In the AIB/LUCAD visual art mfa program, we entered in as Group 1, nervous with fright of the unknown, but that fear didn’t last, because, quickly, we were surrounded by like-minded creative thinkers and chaotically shuffled into a thriving community of our peers. From within this fantastical space, we learned how to converse about our own work while stomaching criticism, vocalizing ideas, and finding places for ourselves within a contemporary discourse. As a community, we grew together and progressed as artists realizing that all of our thoughts, processes, finished or unfinished works,connections; all of it, was work in progress.

After Group 5, when one graduates, there remains that dire need for this progress through connection. As artists, we require constant sustenance to continue our practice as something relevant and alive. Many of us grasp at it on Facebook, attending openings and shows, and building our networks; but it’s now a resource no longer readily available and requires continuous effort. Group 6 is every alum who has received their MFA from the AIB/LUCAD program and wants to be a part of that effort; it is a continued opportunity for community which is something every thriving artist needs to progress.

In this spirit, we have come up with the official name for the pop up show: Group 6:WIP
